Mogalakwena mine’s new GM

James Morotoba, the new general manager (GM) at Mogalakwena Mine, says moving to Limpopo is like a homecoming for him. He was born and schooled in a village 45km North of Polokwane, Botlokwa, affectionately known as Matocks.
Morotoba matriculated from Rampo High school in 1988 where after he enrolled for his BSC Mining Engineering Degree at WITS University. After completion of his degree he was posted in the Mpumalanga’s coal fields. After nine years in the industry he returned to University and completed his MBA.
He remained in the Mpumalanga region for 18 years in the coal mining industry where he was stationed at various operations. Morotoba’s last position was as GM of Isibonelo Colliery, which he occupied for two years. Prior to that he was the GM of Landau Colliery for two years as well.
He launched Mafube (2004) and Isibonelo (2005) Collieries. “I consider the opportunities to start up these two Collieries as a privilege and some of the highlights of my career.”
Morotoba and his life partner Nondwe are looking forward to set down roots in Mokopane with their two children Landiwe (14) and Matome (8).
He attributes much of his success to his father. “My father could not read or write, yet at the end of every semester he would look at my report card and praise and encourage me. It was only later, in high school, that I realized he was unable to read my report card. His love and support through those acts was touching. He will always will remain my hero.”
Morotoba has a passion for the Mogalakwena community and says he will continue to drive the agenda of community upliftment started by his predecessors.
“I am happy to be here, I have met a few people and I really appreciate the warm welcome I have received from the members of the community. I am looking forward to becoming part of this community, not just as a GM but being as a true member of the community.
"I also very much look forward to getting to know the business community in this area. I’m sure that there are many things that we can accomplish together to make sure we uplift the communities. As a forum we can make sure we create an everlasting legacy.”
